52 AD

Apostle Thomas Arrives

According to tradition, the Apostle Thomas arrived on the Malabar Coast of India, making Christianity one of the oldest religions in India.

4th Century

Syrian Christian Community

The St. Thomas Christians flourished in Kerala, maintaining their faith and traditions for centuries.

1542

St. Francis Xavier

Portuguese missionaries, including St. Francis Xavier, brought Catholic Christianity to Goa and other parts of India.

1793

Protestant Missions Begin

William Carey, the "father of modern missions," arrived in India, starting the Protestant missionary movement.

1947

Independent India

After independence, Indian Christianity continued to grow with indigenous leadership and contextualized worship.
