52 AD

Apostle Thomas Arrives in India

According to tradition, the Apostle Thomas arrived on the Malabar Coast of Kerala, making Christianity one of the oldest religions in India.

4th Century

Syrian Christian Community

The St. Thomas Christians flourished in Kerala, maintaining their faith, liturgical traditions, and cultural presence for centuries.

1542

St. Francis Xavier & Catholic Missions

Portuguese missionaries, including St. Francis Xavier, brought Catholic Christianity to Goa, Tamil Nadu, and Western coastal India.

1793

Protestant Missions & Serampore

William Carey, known as the father of modern missions, arrived in Serampore, starting Bible translation and educational institutions.

1947

Independent India & Indigenous Leadership

After independence, Indian Christianity continued to grow under indigenous leaders, pastors, and local church planting movements.
